I enjoy opening students eyes to something they had not yet realized, or something they had never considered before. The 'ah-ha' moments and the moments where you can tell they are connecting with the material are the best moments in the classroom!”

Biography

Maygen Cassity is passionate about teaching and truly feels fortunate to be in the role. “Effective communication skills are essential for all students, and individuals, to excel in all aspects of life,” she says. “I feel like the classes that I get to teach truly make a difference in students’ lives, and that is an unbelievably rewarding feeling.”

After earning a Master of Arts in Rhetorical Studies at Idaho State University, Cassity returned to her hometown of Riverton. She was first hired at CWC by the workforce and community education department and was asked to join faculty in 2012.

“The best part about communication classes is what we learn from each other, our own experiences, and by doing,” she said. Her classes typically consist of a combination of discussion, observation and identification, group work, activities and presentations.

Cassity remembers a note of thanks from one of her students at the conclusion of one semester. “She stated that she felt like she was a better mom, wife, and all-around person because of the class and what she had learned. This note really hit home that we not only have the opportunity to help students in their educational and professional endeavors, but we also have the opportunity to help them become better individuals in all aspects of life.”
